CHOIR PERFORMANCES

Hungary is known for the variety of musical interest, whether folk or rock, techno or classic – Hungary has all the tunes a demanding ear desires.

An important contribution to the field of classical music was Franz Liszt ,a piano virtuoso (he was a sort of rock star of his age – his contemporaries lauded him as the greatest pianist of all time) as well as a composer. More about him you can learn at the the Franz Liszt Memorial Museum and Research Centre (www.lisztmuseum.hu). He also founded the Liszt Academy, not only an still an educational institution, but also where students and tutors can perform in the marvelous Concert Hal.

The beginning of the 20th century brought about two other exceptional characters: Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály both set out to collect Hungarian folk songs all over the Carpathian Basin and incorporate them into their music.

The Opera House shows all major European operas (including Hungarian ones of course), features grand classical concerts and shows beautiful ballets (www.opera.hu Next to the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art is the home of the Bartók National Concert Hall, situated in the Palace of Arts bringing the world’s top artists performing classical, world music or jazz (www.mupa.hu).

Besides concert halls, there are the historical sites which give place to organ concert, choir performances or performances of singers or orchestras.

Concerts at the majestic St. Stephen’s Basilica, the Mathias Church or the Kiscelli Church are a good example for this.

Beside these venues there are smaller, more private concert halls, churches or school auditoriums, where we can organize performances or contacts with Hungarian partners/choirs.
